The Awakening Heart Sangha (AHS) is located a half hour from the Guadalajara Airport on the largest freshwater lake in Mexico. Ajijic is famous for having some of the most hospitable year-round weather in the world, what are you due to its elevation of 5000 feet above sea level.
AHS operates two beautiful properties on a hillside overlooking Ajijic. The plaza and Malecon (lakeside boardwalk) in downtown Ajijic are a 10-minute walk away.
- Our primary facility, Villa del Angel, was formerly a five-star rated B&B and Retreat Center. This hillside Hacienda, with beautiful views of Lake Chapala and the surrounding Sierra Madre mountains, includes 12 guest rooms and casitas, solar heated pool, in-ground hot tub, impressive chapel, private outside meditation areas, and lush gardens. About Ajijic and Lake Chapala
The well-known sage Paramahansa Yogananda visited Lake Chapala in 1929. He predicted that the Lake Chapala area would become a renowned spiritual location. The birth of many spiritual communities in the area has proven his forecast to be true.
The Lake: There’s something about Lake Chapala that has baffled scientists for decades. People are amazed by the calming effect of living in the area. Some say that healing minerals are prevalent, but all we know is that living lake-side is like being on vacation year round.
Safe Environment: Safety is often a concern in Mexico. Though there are definitely areas in the country that are dangerous for ex-pats, this is not one of them. The Lake Chapala region is considered very safe and most Mexicans here are welcoming and grateful.
Second Biggest Airport in Mexico: Ajijic is only a forty minute drive from Guadalajara airport. There are direct flights to many US and Canadian cities every day, and it usually only takes a few hours to reach your destination.
Cost of Living: If you’re worried about having enough money to retire in North America, you probably won’t be concerned about that here. The cost of living in this area of Mexico is around one half of what you would pay in the US or Canada.
Here we have diverse, inexpensive restaurants and coffee shops are plentiful.
The locals: Everyone is very welcoming and although speaking Spanish is a plus, it is not imperative. Abundant local produce and other natural health focused groceries are but a short walk from the Sangha.
The beautiful, cultural city of Guadalajara, and its population of six million is a convenient $30 cab ride or $3 bus ride away.
